When it comes to New Mexico, native New Mexicans have a thing for tattooing themselves with the Z ia symbol (as found in the flag) . Does that happen elsewhere, or just here?

I like the Hawaiian flag, for some reason.
It’s history is very interesting too.
Our county flag is pretty meh really , flowers and water.
Our motto is pretty good,
‘Ad montes oculus levavi’.
‘I lift mine eyes to the mountains’.
Our city coat of arms is very heraldic.
‘Be Just And Fear Not’, taken from Shakespeares Henry VIII Act 3 scene 2.
Wolsey says,

That would be a strictly New Mexico thing, I think. Both my cousins that grew up around Santa Fe have that tattoo... It’s a cool symbol but c’mon.

Colorado has a pretty good flag but there is something about it that makes it look like a corporate logo. It does lend itself to merchandise branding pretty easily as well.

Factoring in meaning of the Zia symbol and I kind of get it , especially up North. T he prevalence of people I know who have a Zia tattoo in Southern NM still puzzles me, especially since most of these folks have only lived down South. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a happy camper in Southern NM, but it is different down here. Of the three cultures that make up NM, only two are present in the South, and even the Hispanic culture is different down here from up North.
My favorite NM tattoo practice was all the folks ( often gang related) who tattooed themselves with “505" as a similar mark of NM pride referring to the area code. This caused problems for some folks when NM starting running out of numbers and had to add a second area code about 10 years ago . M ost of the state switched to the 575 area code ago with b asically only Albuquerque and Santa Fe and NW NM keeping the 505 area code.

Quick count says 4 A’s and 32 F’s. States better hope I decide to grade on a curve, or say something like “none of your shitty seal on a blue field flags get an F as long as Mississippi and Georgia are still flying Confederate flags”.
